Live Life to the Fullest by Feeling Deeply

Life offers us amazing experiences. And yet, despite all the beauty around us, so many of us numb ourselves from it. We protect ourselves from our pain when we do this, but we also make it harder to live life to the fullest.

So how do we balance this? How do we feel deeply and vividly without overwhelming ourselves with pain?

Emotional numbness and dissociation are protective mechanisms. They’re intentionally shielding us from pains in the past or present that our minds believe we cannot handle. Numbness and dissociation are loving protectors, doing their best to keep us safe.

Despite all the good they do us, they also make it difficult to live life to the fullest. After all, is it possible to experience life in all its glory when we’re detached from it?

I believe so. I believe it is possible for you to still feel some detachment, some numbness, some dissociation and live life to the fullest. When you embrace your experience, no matter what that is, you will find this fulfillment.

By feeling all your experiences, the good and the bad, you can live life to the fullest

Dissociation is an experience, just like joy. Anger is an experience, just like apathy. All feelings are experiences and, when we turn our attention towards our inner experience of the world around us, we begin to live life to the fullest.

This episode will show you how to get there. You’ll discover how you can live in the present without needing each moment to feel peaceful and great. When you embrace whatever you are feeling—even if that feeling is a detachment from feeling deeply—then you will begin to live life to the fullest.

Embracing each moment can be elusive for those of us with mental illness, so hopefully this episode has made it easier to grasp. You no longer have to feel like you’re doing something wrong when you’re detached from life. You’ll instead see that as another experience you can witness with compassion.

After you’ve watched this, I would love to hear from you in the comments:

What are you going to do today that allows you to live life to the fullest?

What new thing are you going to try to be present with?

As you write your comment, set the intention to embark on this journey. Act on that promise and explore what being present is like. Find ways that are comfortable for you and that show you new facets of life. Through this exploration, you’ll discover how to live life to the fullest.

Hi pls talk more abt mental illness. People with mental illness suffer so much. Ive been lucky to have a few people who understand me. But its not the case with everyone. I had to go thru very bitter experieces in my life. I can totally relate to u abt dissociation. I want to live life fully. I want to feel all emtions! Can u tell us more abt how u embrace life and also abt how u articulate so clearly and convincingly..

I completely plan to, Shany! 🙂 I can’t wait to share my future articles with you, since my focus is on living a great life with mental illness. I have several conditions myself so, through my own journey and techniques I have learned, I do my best to share what I can with you and others. It truly elates me to hear that I communicate these messages in a clear and understandable way.

I have several other blogs I think will help you live more fully, as well as some offerings where we can work one-on-one or in a group so you can find this fulfillment. Here’s an older, but still very relevant, blog on freeing yourself from painful emotions. Since both living fully and finding self love are processes that take time, I feel this blog will also benefit you a lot! Lastly, the technique in this blog has been probably the most essential to helping me live fully and really embrace all the experiences life offers.

The other offerings are these. I have a free eCourse here that can help you overcome major obstacles, an 8-week program on living a fulfilling life and reaching your ideals and goals, and I also offer private coaching as well. If you’re interested in the latter, you can sign up for a free 30-minute intro session right here. This private coaching is by far the most transformative, but I’m confident any of these will help you along your journey.

          Lots of compassion your way!
